Conquer Chiari Research Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Aintzane Urbizu, a genetics researcher, has been awarded a post-doctoral fellowship grant of $36,000 per year from the Ramón Areces Foundation in Madrid, Spain, to conduct research at the Conquer Chiari Research Center (CCRC) at the University of Akron.
Dr. Urbizu’s research will help improve diagnostic criteria for Chiari malformation by identification of altered intracranial structures and genetic analysis. She will join the CCRC team on October 1st, 2014.
Recipients of the highly competitive Ramón Areces Foundation award work at many prestigious research institutions including: Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Max Plank Institute, and the University of California Berkeley. Dr. Urbizu worked closely with CCRC director Dr. Bryn Martin to formulate the proposal. As part of the proposal, Conquer Chiari pledged $20,000 per year support for materials and supplies. CCRC is honored to have Dr. Urbizu join their rapidly growing research team at the University of Akron.
